In the comments section below some of them, (usually anonymous) posters have made various allegations about him having an unsavoury past, including the specific claim that he committed a murder in Indonesia. I've assumed that this was part of a campaign my Muslims to discredit a critic of Islam, and still think that is the most likely explanation.
